Resident Camp Cabin Leader

Dates:

Staff Training: Monday, July 8 – Wednesday, July 10

Session One: Tuesday, July 15 – Friday, July 19

Session Two: Tuesday, July 30 – Saturday, August 3

Requirements:

  • Livescan (required for staff age 18 or older, or staff who are turning 18 before August 3rd)
  • TB test
  • Complete health form
  • Attend staff training and be available for entire sessions
  • Before staff training, complete online pre-training
  • Entering 11th grade and older

Job Description:

The Cabin Leader position is a volunteer position, much like being a Shady Creek Cabin Leader during the school year, but with more opportunities to lead. Cabin Leaders supervise groups in cabins and throughout activities. They are responsible for leading recreation activities, attending activities with their campers lead by Program Leaders, serving as watchers at the pool, facilitating community discussions with campers, planning and executing cabin-choice activities, and working with all staff to make camp magical.

Cabin Leaders need to be energetic, engaged with campers, positive role models, demonstrate respect to all, and authentically always put the needs of kids first. They need to work hard, take initiative, and celebrate success. They need to know when to be goofy and when to be responsible.

Cabin leaders work around the clock, and receive a long morning or afternoon break, and a short evening break on regular program days.

  •         Attend staff training weekend and be available for entire sessions
  •         Before staff training weekend, complete online trainings

Job Description:

The Program Leader position is a paid position. Program Leaders are responsible for leading specialized programming, such as picnic hikes, low ropes course, shelter building, and evening programs. They consistently demonstrate leadership and are mentors and role models to Cabin Leaders as well as campers.

Program Leaders are natural teachers, engaged with campers, skilled at facilitation, positive role models, demonstrate respect to all, and authentically always put the needs of kids first. They need to work hard, take initiative, and celebrate success. They need to know when to be goofy and when to be responsible. They need to represent a high caliber of work ethic and dedication to camp programming.

Program leaders earn minimum wage and work no more than eight hours each day, forty hours each week.

Job Description:

The Day Camp leader position is a volunteer position. Day Camp Leaders are enthusiastic and positive role models. Leaders receive leadership training on the first day of day camp, supervise campers, and help to lead and facilitate activities. They enjoy working with children, enjoy the outdoors, have a positive attitude, and know when to be goofy and when to be responsible.

Day Camp leaders work from 8:00 – 8:30 AM to 4:30 – 5:00 PM, pack their lunch, and receive a short break over lunch and in the afternoon.

Lifeguard

  •         Minimum age of 18

Job description:

Lifeguards supervise safety during time at the pool. They are responsible for training other staff on proper watching techniques, conducting swim tests, and enforcing pool rules.

Lifeguards work a daily afternoon shift during day and resident camp, and one evening shift during resident camp sessions. Lifeguards earn $13/hour or two day camp and two resident camp tuitions. Apart from time at the pool, lifeguards have the opportunity to facilitate other aspects of camp, including camper-choice activities and other daily camp routines.

Resident Camp Nurse

Dates:

Session Two: Tuesday, July 30 – Saturday, August 3

Requirements

  •         Work experience and licensing as a nurse or physician
  •         Livescan
  •         TB test
  •         Complete health form

The camp nurse provides health care to both campers and staff. They are responsible for dispensing medications, treating illness, and providing first aid. They are the camp’s first responder, and must be calm in the event of an emergency.

The camp nurse is on-call during the day and sleeps in the nurse’s station at night. They earn one resident camper tuition for each session.
