Tipi began as the home of the
Shady Creek Outdoor School Director, John Hendrickson, and evolved into a
classroom for students. Today, though no longer the "original Tipi,"
this classroom is a place where students come to understand what it
means to live in harmony with the natural environment and other life
lessons that come from our predecessors.
The tipi is used to set the stage for several other
activities that focus on sensory awareness,
appreciation and Native Americans. A visit to the
tipi is a powerful experience where students may
learn about tipi structure and function. They may
also gain an appreciation for Native American
symbolism, beliefs, and lifestyles. |
