Music is an integral part of the Shady Creek Outdoor School Program. From our first meal on Monday we share music through the program. Students are also encouraged to share their musical talents during sharing time at meals. The concepts we teach with song are built on during classes (often shared as song again) and singing is also used to heighten learning during evening programs. Songs such as "Dirt Made My Lunch," "Food Chain," "I am an Animal," "Bats Eat Bugs," "It's So Nice to be Here," "Habitat," "Evil Waste," "Eco-Kid," and others are utilized each week to underscore, in a fun way, the concepts taught at Shady Creek Outdoor School. Indeed, students are eager singers by the end of any stay at Shady Creek Outdoor School.

The focal point of much of the music is the dining hall stage where the "Shady Creek Band" performs a variety of songs throughout the week. Here students are introduced to the songs that will form a foundation for many of the concepts taught at the outdoor school. This is also where student have the opportunity to showcase their own existing, or newly learned at Shady Creek, musical talent. Many students have their first "musical performance" while attending Shady Creek. Music is also utilized on trail classes and during evening program.
