Home > Outdoor Education > Class Description > Indian Room

The entire class (including tipi visit) focuses on Native American culture and one’s own relationship to the environment. Students learn native stories, legends, dances, and games. Students also play several Maidu games, make friction fires, and use authentic mortars and pestles to prepare and taste native foods and teas.

This is a place where students gain hands-on experience with various Native American activities. Included here are games, fire making, food preparation, pictographs, and face painting. These hands-on experiences help to reinforce the lessons learned about living in harmony with the natural world.
