Bird Class Description

The study of birds and the story of Shady Creek are almost one in the same. Beginning with the arrival of Rusty the Red-Tailed Hawk in 1976, Shady Creek Outdoor School has focused on the avian community for three decades. (Story of Rusty).

The centerpiece of our bird studies is the Radin Raptor Center. Here students meet and learn about birds of prey first hand in an enriching and exciting environment. For complete information about the Raptor Center follow the link.

Students are also given the opportunity to visit our bird bind and to learn about the many adaptations of our avian friends. Binoculars are distributed to each student as they seek to take what they have learned and identify these birds by their habits and adaptations.

Our visiting raptors are also an active part of evening programs and can bee seen in our dining hall as well.
