The arts are well represented in the curriculum
at Shady Creek Outdoor School. From a strong music program (music), to dramatic arts, writing, and drawing, painting, and
sculpting, opportunities abound for artistic expression. Interwoven into
our Birds, Forest Ecology, Pond Study, Native American, Sensory
Awareness, and other classes are opportunities for individual student
artistic expression. Beyond this, we provide artistic classes during
recreation periods and during Special Events (an elective class taken at
week's end). Students are also exposed to dramatic arts as presented by
Shady Creek staff and visiting program staff during evening programs. The
dining hall stage is also a place where students can share their
writings and other artistic work and expression with everyone attending
Shady Creek.
As artistic expression weaves its way into virtually every aspect of the
Shady Creek program, all artistic endeavors can provide an excellent
learning opportunity. Indeed, there is scarcely an artistic medium that
does not find a home at Shady Creek Outdoor School.
